Integrity
To ‘heal’ in the original sense of the word means ‘to
make whole’. Our experience of being well in the world with others may expand
through increasing intrapersonal as well as interpersonal wholeness,
connectedness, togetherness, centeredness and expansiveness – through
integrating towards greater integrality.
We may use expressions like ‘getting it all together’ and
‘getting my act together’, and being better connected.
Many people disconnect as a way of coping with the
dominant system.
People disconnect body from feeling and become numb. They
use countless ways to block feeling and memory. Disconnect manifests in a
myriad ways:
o
Where
neighbour is disconnected from neighbour and one does not know the people
living opposite
o
Where
‘management’ use non-understanding of workers as an indispensable technique
o
Where
‘play’ for disconnected children is flicking buttons in electronic games – many
designed to prepare them for disconnected killing
o
Where
folk laugh at a cartoon of children watching a sunrise on the TV when there’s a
magnificent sunrise visible though the window
o
Where
children are ‘bored’ all the time because ‘they have nothing to do’. Whatever
happened to creative and imaginative spontaneous play?
o
Where
left brain dominates and demeans and disconnects right brain
o
Where
for many, a good night out is subjecting one’s self to electrically generated
music played so loud one can’t talk and be heard; where drugs and alcohol skew
and dull the senses - where the dominant beat is the down beat of the march to
war, or the erratic beats of a chaotic mind. Rashid a drummer has folk in
drumming circles feel how the up-beat takes the war out of the down beat – hey,
let’s move our bodies and dance and be aware of the up foot rather than the
down foot while walking - a very different experience - feeling up rather than
down - feeling light rather than heavy
Mantras may seem trivial to some. They have potential as speech
acts - words with consequences.
The following mantras foster possibilities for linking to
re-connect all of the myriad bits we have disconnected. These mantra lines may
be quietly reflected upon towards integrating all aspects of our being for
wellness.
You may look at each word and silently reflect for some
time.
Someone may say the mantra in a group setting with a long
pause between the lines.
Perhaps, have a long silence at the end of the Mantra.
People may want to re-orient for a while.
Then quietly stand and re-orient.
Then quietly go for a very slow walk alone while slowly
re-orienting to everyday life.
Then, when folk are ready, slowly forming into small
groups and being connected together.
